What to Expect at Your Root Canal Treatment Visit

To have this treatment completed, it involves a number of appointments. During the time in between these appointments, we will do our best to help with the pain you are experiencing, such as prescribing you pain relief medication.

Firstly, the dentist will take an x-ray of your tooth to see how infected the area is. A local anaesthesia will be used to numb the area so you do not experience any pain throughout the procedure.

The next step includes the infected tissue being removed. The inside and remainder tissue will be cleaned out and disinfected. The dentist will ensure all infected bacteria has been removed. We will then make another appointment for you so that the tooth can be sealed.

Once the tooth area has been cleaned, it will then be sealed to prevent any further infection returning. The material the dentist will use to seal the tooth is called gutta-percha, it is a rubber-like material.

The final stage of root canal (endodontics) treatment is the placement of a crown or a filling. This will help restore the tooth. When the crown or filling has healed correctly, the tooth will function like any other regular tooth you have.
